When You Dream Of Tragedy

imageThese are instructions for the believer in regard to dreams and visions. If you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and have given your life to him, if you confess him publicly, and identify yourself as one who is a disciple of Christ, then these instructions are for you.

Dreams, dream symbols, and visions can only be understood by the Spirit. Dreams are spirit, and they must be spiritually discerned through the Holy Spirit (spirit of truth) that dwells inside the believer of God, and His son Jesus Christ. Jesus said, “the words that I speak to you are spirit, and they must be spiritually discerned.”

God gives his beloved rest. He also, ministers to us in a way where fear is not the prevailing emotion. Nevertheless, nightmares will happen, and when they do we should stand up against them rather than being thrown into some kind of fear filled state of helplessness. As you grow in the Lord, and your prophetic gift as a dreamer, you will be able to distinguish between what is an attack of the enemy during your sleep, or a call to intercede for your family, church, city, or nations. Not all dreams from God are necessarily pleasant, especially those of warning, as you can see in scripture. However, a spiritual attack while you are sleeping is usually very negative, heavy, and sometimes paralyzing, where you literally are dreaming that you are being chased down, charged at, or wrangled down by something that is hostile towards you.

Though a nightmare is not of God, it still could be revealing an attack of the enemy against you or a loved one.

Often times people are terribly tormented over dreams regarding the death of a family member. This needs to be dealt with in prayer and by the word of God. First pray the prayers of faith over those who were depicted in the dream. Praying scripture that supports health and well-being, because you are in covenant with God through His son Jesus Christ, and the word of God says to “Believe upon the Lord Jesus Christ and you and your household shall be saved. Acts 16:31. Also, God’s word regarding our sons and daughters says our children shall be taught of the Lord, and great shall be the peace of our children. We have authority in Jesus name to bind the power of the enemy, and premature death, and pray that the only death anyone will experience is that of the carnal nature. “Putting to death the deeds of darkness.

On more than a few occasions I have seen disaster pass over my with out harm. God is a God of peace. When we trust in Him, even dreams that are a little disturbing will not phase us when we know that His thoughts towards us are for good and not for evil. Pray through until you have that confidence. Jesus said, “I have given you power to tread upon scorpions and serpents and over ALL the power of the enemy.”

As you may know we have authority as believers in Jesus name. Mark 16:15-16. If you do not know this learn it- seek and you will find, knock and the door will open. God has said, “my people perish for lack of knowledge.” We are to learn of Him and who we are in Him as believers. Another blessing of God that belongs to us is that our fruit will not fall from the tree before “its time.” “With long life I will satisfy you, and show you my salvation.” This is the proverbial promise land that we take possession of everyday, the promises of God for ourselves and our family, contending for what is ours, the promises of God are yes and Amen.

To obtain peace and rest in our sleep and in our daily lives: Philippians 4:6-8 With supplication and prayers let your requests be made known to God, and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Isaiah 26:3

“The steadfast of mind You will keep in perfect peace, Because he trusts in You.”

John 14:27

“Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful”.

2 Corinthians 10:5

We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.

Another possibility of death being portrayed in dreams is that the person depicted may represent a people or a nation that is lost. Or it could also, parallel the spiritual condition of that individual. We can go to God in prayer and clear up what the matter is all about, and how we can best pray. Anything that is fear driven is not of God. It is faith that pleases Him. Sometimes our worst fears our played out in dreams and nightmares. In this case you should go to your pastor or a fellow believer that knows how to pray and seek God on how to get rid of a spirit of fear, and from where it comes, for the scripture says that fear has torment. II Timothy 1:7 we have not a spirit of fear, but of love and power and a sound mind.” See: When you Dream of Tragedy II where we go into more specific detail on how to handle disturbing, and haunting dreams.

When You Dream of Tragedy II

imageFrom the time that I was a child I was one of those who was a vivid dreamer. I quickly learned that dreamers gifted in the prophetic must also be intercessors in order to be effective in their service to the Lord, and humanity.  The Holy Spirit has taught me that we can change the outcome of most negative, or dark dreams. Some Christians teach that negative dreams, or disturbing dreams, are not of God-  but that is not what the scripture says in.

Job 33:15-18.

In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on people as they slumber in their beds, he may speak in their ears  and terrify them with warnings, to turn them from wrongdoing  and keep them from pride,  to preserve them from the pit, their lives from perishing by the sword.

We can evolve from a fearful “observer” to  a “participator” of what God is trying to accomplish with our dreams.  God raises up intercessors to intercede on behalf of those who have lined themselves up for death, or have fallen under the cross hairs of a hateful foe while in service to the Lord. Often, dreams are a tool to initiate prayer, with all the knowledge we have available to us the people of God should know a lot more about these things than we do, but the enemy has worked to keep our dreams under a mystical wrap, and often, even the church, has scoffed at their importance.

There are many examples in the bible where the Lord revealed that  death and destruction was about to take place, where, through our prayers of intercession He was able to change the outcome. For Example: Hezekiah was told he was going to die but  prayer changed the outcome. God gave him 15 more years. Jonah was told that Nineveh would be destroyed. The people repented and God held back judgment. Consider Abraham’s intercession for Sodom and Gomorrah. Or when God stopped the destroying angel and told him to “stay His sword” after King David’s prayer of repentance and intercession.

The following are three examples in my life time where dreams and intercessory prayer changed the out come.

My daughter dreamed my son (who was a youth and music minister) was murdered. At the same time I had uneasiness in my spirit come over  me concerning him, as well, who is my  youngest son. My daughter learned to mind her dreams at an early age, so she called me and told me about the dream. We began a prayer vigil over him. It developed into what I call extreme spiritual warfare. A lot of prayer, word, and authoritative rebuke against plots of the enemy. A few weeks later my son was stuck in a traffic jam, and ended up in an altercation with an unstable individual who walked up to the passenger side of his car with a gun in his hand yelling that he was going to kill him. My son with no other recourse, or defense, locked him into a stare down, and after a few harrowing moments the man ran off. I am convinced that the power of God intervened that very moment. The details of that incident were similar to my daughter’s dream. Just a few months later another series of circumstances were prayed through, and he was spared again just weeks before his wedding. The plots against him were broken through dreams and intercessory prayer. You may ask why the attacks? When we are serving the Lord, we become a target, but the word of God says, “Greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.”

Psalm 37:12-13 The wicked rage against the righteous, he grits his teeth at him, but the Lord laughs at the wicked because He knows his day is coming.

Twenty years prior I had a four-part dream. The fourth part of that dream was a relative suffering a serious head injury, where he seemed to fall on the concrete driveway, from the roof, while cleaning the chimney. The first three parts of the dream came true in chronological order. I finally realized the fourth would too and I covered the dream in prayer. Weeks later, I went to my relatives house one afternoon and saw him on the roof cleaning the chimney, I sat next to his wife on the lawn to talk when I began to be reminded of the dream. His ladder was leaning against the house on the concrete drive way. The scene was so familiar to my dream, that I became alarmed, ran up to the ladder, and moved it to the grass letting him know I had moved it 20 feet over. I also held the ladder as he came down. He slipped on the third run up, and though the ladder faltered I held it steady. He came down safe and sound. The outcome of the dream was changed.

Just recently, I had a dream concerning my husband. I dreamed that he went to the “large item garbage bin” on another street to dump  some boxes, (in real life) this was provided for our neighborhood but it was located a few blocks away. In my dream he took a wrong turn and never came back. This dream really bothered me and I started immediate prayer over it. A few days later my husband gathered some big items around the house and went to go to dump them at the big item bin. It was a little later at night and it didn’t sit well with me. I said, “I’ll go with you”. He drove, I prayed. We dumped off the items and as we were leaving the neighbourhood, my husband noticed that some one had left their car lights on in their car. Being the helpful neighbour that my husband is, he was concerned that their battery would go dead. There was a baby seat in the back seat. He stopped the car and went to go to the door. Remembering my dream, I said, “honey just honk and point it out. Lets not go to the door, okay?” So he did. The people opened the door and looked outside, they looked a little rough, but we just smiled and pointed to the lights in the car, as we drove by and left. I know without a shadow of a doubt that he would have gone to their door, and waited around to see if they would need a jump or further assistance, that’s just him. We will never know what that was all about, but I believe the outcome of the dream  was changed.

I have learned not to ignore my dreams, but  participate with their message in prayer. To take them seriously, and pray over them, even when I don’t completely understand the dream may mean. Even if it requires me  to roll out of bed at three o’clock in the morning and pray NOW. Especially, when they are negative. Because, I believe the nature of these dreams are warnings and the outcome is subject to change. If the outcome is unchangeable God  will not haunt you with a sorrowful dream,  to agonize over for days and even years as some have suffered. If that does occur we are missing something. God does not torment us. His thoughts towards us are for good and not evil, to give us a hope and future.  However, the scripture says “My people parish for lack of knowledge.” Our lack of knowledge puts us in the seat of the helpless observer in our dreams, instead of an anointed, called by God, Spirit filled  participant. What we bind on earth is bound in heaven and what we loose on earth is loosed in heaven…

At best our participation will change negative circumstances. At the least we will have the wisdom to handle what comes, with out fear and with soundness of mind, knowing we did our part. knowing we prayed, and warned. Our “knowings” are to prepare us, not torment us. God’s covenant with His people has preeminence over our dreams. A family member dies an untimely tragic death, in a dream .. What does God’s word say about that? His word says, ” believe upon the Lord Jesus Christ and you and your house hold shall be saved. (Rescued) The lost dreamer does not have that promise, he or she is with out knowledge of the truth about God’s kingdom, and too often goes to the lesser god, for guidance. That god knows no peace but the counterfeit. Knows no joy that lasts, whose end is eternal separation from all that is good, holy, decent and true. There is only one true God and he is known through His Son Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace.

Our dreams, often times, point out the end of paths if they are continued on. There is a way that leads to life … If we listen to God we change our habits, we change friends, we become more watchful, more alert, why? To change the outcome of what could be a failed life if we continue the wrong path and  do not adjust to what we know is our destiny, which is life and life more abundant, walking the road less traveled.

Mathew 7:13-14

“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.  Because  narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

Philippians 4:5-9 (New International Version)

Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
