What a tornado means in a dream. What does it mean to dream of a tornado?

When we dream of tornados the first thing we need to look at is where we are  in relationship to the tornado. Because tornados (known as whirlwinds in the bible) often represent sudden and unexpected calamity. Our location (in view of one) is the first clue on how it will effect us. In the dream, are we in its path, or is it just passing by? Are we with it outside of the house? Are we inside a shelter? These are questions that we need to ask ourselves after having a tornado dream, to unlock its message. Sometimes tornados have a positive implication, such as scripture describing God riding in on a whirlwind. But, I wouldn’t imagine that being a positive for everyone. Another is Elijah being taken up to heaven in a whirlwind and chariot of fire. In this the glory of God is being associated with a whirlwind. But, my personal experience has been what they are, a destructive force of nature. Whatever they are representing the following article will give you examples and tools on how to interpret tornado dreams.

Many people dream they are looking through a window and seeing a tornado. Windows in a dream can have their own prophetic meaning. They are symbolic to the revelatory giftings. They let in the light, and allow us to see things that would otherwise be hidden from view, they can be an indicator that we’re about to see something through the lens of  the prophetic, when we dream of looking out the window. Therefore, what we see through a window in a dream, is often being framed through the prophetic gifting. So watching a tornado through a window is a common occurrence. If the window is open we will encounter this raging force of nature with our eyes and ears, in prophetic hearing and seeing. Often it represents a sudden whirlwind of events and not an actual tornado, itself.  Behind an open window we hear and see of  its effects, but it won’t be directly damaging to us, because we are not outside of shelter. If you are outside of shelter when a tornado comes in your dream, you will feel its effects to the level it impacts you.  If it passes by it will produce all the fearful feelings of seeing a potential disaster, but those fears will not be realized. I have had many tornado dreams that have warned me, as an intercessor to pray for our family, and our nation. In 2007 I saw a tornado or whirlwind blow across the waters from the North Atlantic. It hit a target across the sea then turned into a tsunami. When it hit the shores of the US, people were overcome by it, they were sleeping. I saw a woman who was awake but not watching out, get hit by the water and she was treading in the water up to her waist. This woman would later lose half her savings in the stock market. In the dream, I was ready to run up a flight of stairs and the water just swelled under my feet. We knew, after prayer, it would have something to do with the economy and my husband and I began to warn all we could about the coming economic tsunami of 2008. My husband and I began to change our lifestyle, and downsized our monthly expenses. We also liquidated  certain accounts and avoided substantial loss, we made a career choice that sheltered us from the economic down turn, and actually did better financially during that time, than previous years. Other Tornado examples.

My daughter had a dream that she saw the trunk of a tornado come through my window, and hit me in my chest. The tornado was at the end of the back yard. The dream meant that my daughter was seeing (prophetically) that something sudden and destructive would personally effect me in my heart. But, that it was going to come from outside of the house. With in a week I was actually looking out my back yard and noticed in the neighbors field, next to us, a tree laying out. The trunk of the tree was facing me. I looked over to the end of the yard and found that the neighbor had cut down our cheery tree! It hit me like a ton of bricks, in my chest, the anger I felt. The nerve! I then watched him walk five feet past our property line and go after a large flowering bush, with a worker.  I walked out there and he got a good yelling at. I began to understand God was trying to warn me, through a dream, that this neighbor was going to lose his mind and come in like a whirlwind cutting down trees and bushes with in my property line. The neighbor had erroneously rationalized that the people he sold the property to would finish clearing the land, adjacent to his property. However, the people he sold the land to let the bushes and saplings grow into trees, but he didn’t like that.  After we bought the land he felt entitled that he could go and cut them down, even though they were not his, and on our property. It doesn’t make any sense, I know! But this really happened, and I think he started realizing how ridiculous his thinking process was, as his explanation to me began to fall apart under my incredulous gaze, when I confronted him. He thought that the transference of the title to us was his opportunity to get rid of  what he didn’t finish off. But we liked the bush and tree and wanted them. Amazingly, both grew back with a vengeance. Even after he braved an effort to poison the cherry tree’s root.  But, at the time our tree was cut, nothing could be done for it. It was a 14 year old cherry tree, and I was mad. 

It hit me in my heart just like in my daughter’s dream.

 I have a decree in landscape  and horticulture so plants, trees, wild flowers; and their botanical value is important to me. Unfortunately, for the neighbor he just picked the wrong person to cut down their tree.  God knew that. I didn’t engage that dream in prayer like I have so many others. I think because it wasn’t my own dream. But, it was about me so I should have. All the issues of my heart, not so sanctified, were put to the test on how I was going to deal with this neighbor. He was a “Round Up” man who’s spray often drifted over to our half acre from his 20 acres of spraying, so that incident was just the beginning of  an on going conversation with this neighbor.  You see I believe God gives us dreams for the purpose of prayer to change outcomes or warn people to seek him. Not just to foretell futures, but to engage with us concerning a futuristic matter, otherwise we would be using our dreams as a crystal ball and that is not the biblical way to process dreams. To Him we take mysteries and Him alone. Sad and disturbing dreams processed through prayer brings peace. But, how many people silently fret over such things feeling powerless because they had an ominous dream? Many who are supersticious do. The Bible  from the very beginning teaches us what we should do about prophetic dreams; but, many Christian’s ignore the supernatural side of God . Therefore they do not learn of His supernatural ways, or even how to discern what is of God and what is not. The key to everything is to know Jesus, and to be known by Him.

Well, I forgave my neighbor and to his credit he bought me another tree. Although, a few more of his antics didn’t end with that incident.  I learned a lesson to take all tornado dreams serious. As I have before and after this one. You might ask how did you know the blow to the chest wasn’t a physical heart attack as oppose to an emotional one? We don’t unless we pray for interpretation. It would have to be revealed. God gives us prophetic dreams and we need the Holy Spirit to interpret them. So symbolism really is a small part in understanding these mysteries of God. Relationship with Him unveils mysteries. Our practice has been to cover prophetic warnings on every level in prayer. For the whole man or woman. Body soul and spirit. Also, you may ask how do you know such a dream doesn’t have a more broader application? The answer is you don’t unless you pray. That being said, often ”back yard dreams” relay to ”your own back yard.”

Ask God for wisdom for He gives to all men liberally, with out reproach, He gives to them that ask. James 1:5 

The foretelling of a calamity, such as a tornado, are meant to warn us. So we can prepare in prayer that they won’t happen, or that they won’t devastate us when they do. The Lord is ever merciful so dreams of calamity are not designed to scare and torment us, but to inform and protect us, if we engage them biblically. Not with superstition. God is a very present help in times of trouble and whosoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. In the book of Job it says that dreams do terrify us at times to “keep us from the pit.” Job 33:15-18 So don’t let anyone tell you that a bad dream is not from God. They often are there to wake us up! That we might look at how we are living our lives with more soberness. When you need help with your dreams, seek a believer who reads the Bible and prays. Preferably, a PROPHETIC believer. Unfortunately, some churches don’t encourage prophetic gifting. So you will need to ask the Holy Spirit to send you a believer that does. Unfortunately, a lot of congregations are taught about the supernatural manifestations of the Holy Ghost out of fear and ignorance. They believe in them but they do not teach on them, nor do they teach on how to receive those operating in the 5 fold ministry, described in Ephesians chapter 4. That are set in the Church, other than the pastoral anointing, so many are not equipped to receive diverse operations of God, and the manifestations of His Holy Spirit, that actually create a safe place to go and share your dreams for counsel and discernment. If you are a dreamer seek God for a company of elder prophets that will shepherd you and your dreams. If your pastor breaks out in a sweat when you tell him your dreams. He’s not the one that can help you. Just saying. 

What isn’t from God.

Dream paralysis, with entities attacking you are not from God, these come because we have opened up our selves to spiritual trouble. Sleep terrors need rebuked in Jesus name, so seek the Lord, or find people who will pray for you, in the name of Jesus, to stop them. That, and removing all cultish objects and practices from your midst cleans up the spiritual atmosphere of your life, and helps defeat night terrors. Others may resort to council, therapy, or medications, to manage their difficulty in this area. They may need to seek medical intervention. But, why not try the manufacturer’s manual, or His call center first?  After all, God made us! So He can fix us too. All good paths for our healing  (more than not) start out in prayer for guidance. Renouncing dark arts and receiving Christ, is the beginning of deliverance from satanic attacks in our dreams. Drawing closer to Jesus. The word of God says resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw close to God and HE will draw close to you! James 4:8  He gives His beloved sleep, when you lie down you will not be afraid. Psalm 127:2, Psalm 91:1-3

Whosoever calls upon the name of JESUS shall be saved!

For God so loved the world that He gave His only son that whosoever believes on Him should not perish but have ever lasting life. John 3:16

Call on Him today! By the way, there is no good magic or nice witchcraft. The Bible says that Satan himself masquerades as an ANGEL OF LIGHT. We were meant to walk with God and in the power of His might. He hates sorcery and magic. The Holy Spirit is the only true source of power we should ever desire. Because we were created to be lamps full of the Holy Spirit. Vessels of honor and privilege in Christ the son. He brings peace to the tornadic upheavels, sometimes, called our lives. Our prophetic dreams and visions were designed for His imput, and no other. Joel 2

It is a joke to the devil, that will soon be judged, that he can deceive vessels made for God that he can enter into their lives, and bodies, because they invite him in by turning to the occult; rather, than to the Father of all creation. While most dreams are designed to process daily life data; as well as our thoughts and emotions, some dreams are actually night visions given to us by our creator to whisper into our ear to seal up instruction, teaching us in the midnight hour. All that He speaks to us will be found in His written word, the Bible. He is a God of love that wants to save whosoever will. He wants to train us and strengthen us in Him. He wants His children to act like sons and daughters. As children go to school to learn in this world, God wants His children to go to “KINGDOM of God school” to learn all there is about Him, and the spiritual beings we are. Our text book is the bible, our teacher is His Holy Spirit, and elders who live to lead in the Word. 

Seeking God’s counsel when we have dreams of a destructive force coming our way, such as a tornado, could be paramount in our survival of what may be coming. Or extremely useful in warning others. But are we willing to go to God for understanding? Many in the world do not seek Him out, to teach them. He wants to be our shelter for every storm.

 whosoever listens to me shall dwell in safety and shall be quieted from fear and evil. Proverbs 1:33

 But, when we disregard Him, then we are given over to what we do choose. The following passage may seem harsh, but just remember: It is God’s will that no man or woman is lost in this world; but, that every one comes to the saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. When we depart from Him we depart from the only real shelter that exists in this broken and dying world. To the mockers that scoff at His wisdom and instruction, He has had great patience, allowing them to continue in their rebellion, showing them much restraint and kindness while they live in their head strong ways. Letting the rain and sunshine fall on all, the godly and ungodly.  Many are deceivers and being deceived, because that is their world that they have chosen. But time is running out for the wicked.

“Because I have called and you refused to listen, because I have stretched out my hand and no one has heeded, because you have ignored all my counsel and would have none of my reproof, [you mocked] therefore I will laugh when terror strikes you like a storm, and your calamity comes like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you. Then they will call upon me, [in an hour when it is too late] I will not answer; they will seek me diligently but will not find me.

Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the Lord,  and would have none of my counsel and despised all my reproof, therefore they shall eat the fruit of their way, and have their fill of their own devices. For the simple are killed by their turning away, and the complacency of fools destroys them; but, whoever LISTENS to me will dwell SECURE and will be at ease, without dread of disaster.” Proverbs 1:24-31

Dear dreamer of dreams, line your gift up to the one who gives them! The Father of lights. He will give you understanding. Don’t let the enemy of your soul twist the narrative of your life and dreams for his own agenda. Say yes to the work Jesus did for you on the cross, to set you free and take your punishment for sin. For the soul that sins, it shall die. This is speaking of eternal seperation from God. No one wants that, he has done every thing to save us, that includes giving His son Jesus Christ to take the death penalty in our stead. So we can live our eternal existence with Him. There is a whirlwind coming for it is the end of the age. Look at the world we live in! God is speaking, seek Him now while you can. Remember the story of Noah, how he warned the people of his day.  When the whirlwind of the ages comes, when the tornadic age we live in is reaching its F 5, where will you be in proximity of that storm? Jesus is the rock of ages, abide in Him. He’s our shelter in times of trouble. Isaiah 4:6.
