Have you ever heard the saying that life imitates art?

Well, sometimes natural habits imitate spiritual parallels in our lives, the same way. For example: we may really enjoy going to rummage sales that involve reaching into bins looking through other people’s castaways for a treasure! Maybe it’s going through an old box that was in storage for years at a flea market. It may reflect aspects of our personality on how we engage with others. There are those who believe there is a treasure in everyone if you look hard enough into the soul. Would that same kind of personality be found at a flea market carefully exploring every nook and cranny for a Great find? Even what they are looking for can give us prophetic insight into their heart. It could be something they want to fix and make beautiful again. Or, something nostalgic, useful, decorative; or, a piece to a missing part. These little things add to the make up of our individuality, and everyone should be able to persue their interests as long as it is not pursuing sin, these kind of pursuits reflect the uniqueness of our souls.

In this dream we are about to examine, we see terms of engagement that are much like an exploration at a rummage sale. The problem is that not all the characters in the scene have good intentions. It is as if the Lord spoke into the dreamers ear and said, “Hey you know how much you like sorting through clothing bins at the second hand store, looking for something to salvage from a pile of clothes? Well, I want to use that as a metaphor to reveal something to you, and by the way, it is always good to be causous about reaching into the containers of discarded things.” (The more you know.) Lol, any way could you imagine being bit by a rat, snake, or brown recluse searching through an old box, let’s say, at a yard sale? That would be a nightmare! It is not unusual for the Spirit of God to warn us of lurking dangers hiding in unexpected places, in a dream. I could tell you a couple stories on that. So it’s not unusual for Him to give us a dream that has multiple applications in it (like the one below), about reaching into bins full of someone else’s discarded past; both, naturally and spiritually.

This dream sent in by a reader of our website caused me to be more alert when sorting through old boxes at rummage sales. You never know what you might run into. It is the same when dealing with other people’s past. Some bitter souls have made that place their abode. They seem to “own” all the memories, even the good ones. The stories, somehow, begin to twist back to a grudge no matter what path you try to take around it. To the point that one’s own narrative, is lost in the sea of another’s bitter soul. In this, it can be difficult for those who have discarded the mind sets of the old nature, and have gone on to be renewed in CHRIST Jesus, only to be reminded over and over again of past failures the old nature failed in.

For those who have struggled for years with addictions and other destructive life styles their story belongs to the casualties of those left in their wake of a Godless life. Something, a born again child of God seeks to make amends for. For them they can only look forward to another day to somehow breath life into the here and now, for those who can accept new beginnings, by the grace of God. Some aspects of the past may be worth saving, but those who hold  captive, the past with a bitter spirit, have the power to mar, forever, what could have been a salvageable memory. This is why it is altogether good to just move on and not engage with the stinker, who seems to want to control the narrative of a story that is not, inclusively, there own. Regardless, we have a life in Christ that can’t be touched. However, there are memories that attest to the goodness of God that are our testimonies, of which Satan would certainly, desire a bitter spirit to hold in captivity, to re-direct flows, that witnesses to the mercy and grace of God. Thank God, we overcome by the blood of the lamb, and the word of our testimony. Though surrendering bitterness is in the power of  the individual, who harbors it, demon activity that gives it supernatural powers, can be broken off those narratives that belong to God. Greater is He that is in us, than he that is in the world. Now let us look at this dream, we titled RUMMAGE SALE.

Thanks so much for offering interpretations to dreams because I had one that’s been “bugging” me. Not to worry if you haven’t the time to get to this one.

I had a dream & the only thing I can remember is I was walking up to a barrel like this: At thrift stores they’re usually filled with clothes donations. When I got up to the barrel to see what treasures lie within, I was scared out of my wits because there was a skunk sitting in there among the clothes. He was covered up to his neck. He already had his head turned & was just looking up at me (like he already knew I was coming). His largish kind of protruding white & black eyes met mine. He didn’t move, wasn’t  scared. I backed away immediately. Being so frightened woke me a bit & in that half awake/asleep state I said: “something stinks”. (although in the dream I didn’t smell anything and he didn’t spray me).

He was kind of creepy looking because his head looked sort of leathery. He wasnt cutesy like they usually look. That’s all I can remember. I don’t ever usually have dreams like this (that I can remember)

About this dream, we are to “put off the old man” like a garment. Looking through the bin is a place you go to salvage something. Something not too worn, stained, or torn. Something worth saving. Do you have someone in your life that has seen a lot of people cast off their old nature for Christ? But, they have never come to The Lord? Or, at least come into living the new life? They contain the memories of many in their old nature. imageSometimes we, have known people before they came to Christ, and we retain all the details of the old man, as this bin does, the cast a way of the garments of men. This person, or that place has a demon that has the potential to defile you, to raise a stink that not only will add its own twist to the past lives of others, but that stench would defile your new nature in the controversy.

This is an individual, or group, who remembers or knows a lot about the past of others, that you might not have a problem engaging with; your intent is to pull out the good and leave the bad but this dream is telling you that one of those bins “has a demon”. That demon is very aware of you. When you said, “Something stinks” you were voicing spiritual discernment. The nose discerns those things that cannot be seen. You disengaged before it could let off its foul odor.

This dream is the red flag confirming you are to do that. Interesting that being sprayed upon by a skunk requires your clothes to be stripped and burned to rid the stench. The wisdom here is to disengage. Stay away from this type of verbal sorting process, with this one ruled by their carnal nature. Deliverance for the “garment container” the one who harbors in (their memory) the past of others whom have exchanged their old garments for new. This kind  requires fasting and prayer. The leathery looking skunk is weathered in its workings, meaning its been around a long time. Root of Bitterness.

Hebrews 12:14-16
New King James Version (NKJV)
Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord: Looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled; lest there be any fornicator or profane person like Esau, who for one morsel of food sold his birthright.

Acts 8:21-24
New King James Version (NKJV)
(Regarding the Infilling of the Holy Ghost) You have neither part nor portion in this matter, for your heart is not right in the sight of God. Repent therefore of this your wickedness, and pray God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you. For I see that you are poisoned by bitterness and bound by iniquity.”

Note: It turned out that the dreamer did have an individual in their life that fit the description and so took the warning in the dream to heart, praying for them to be delivered from a root of bitterness.

  1. Note: the dreamer wanted to remain anonymous, but, wrote back to confirm the interpretation as true and accurate regarding a person in their life whose bitterness was becoming demonically empowered.
